Description: Dana Hackney is a maker who continues to challenge himself and improve his craft. His sense of design is exceptional and only matched with his level of attention to detail. This knife has been in a single collection since it was made in the summer of 2011. It has been meticulously cared for and by all appearances it could have been made yesterday.
Dana began the piece by hand forging a detail-oriented 3 inch blade from W2 carbon steel, which he completed with a clay differential heat treatment and a hand rubbed satin finish. This technique, borrowed from the world of Japanese swords, results in a beautiful hamon, or heat treatment line, and a heirloom appearance.
The warm toned bronze bolster matches the handle nicely. The spacer is ivory micarta, providing a nice contrast between the bronze and the fiddleback walnut handle. This highly figured wood is extremely prized and famously used in violins (hence "fiddleback"). Dana sculpted the handle perfectly - the weight is right and it fits in your palm like an extension of your hand. A thoughtfully designed piece with exceptional fit and finish throughout!
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand stitched leather sheath designed for horizontal carry is included.
