Description: Andre de Villiers' sturdy utility folders are a pleasure to own, to hold, and - most importantly - to use.
The blade of this Hummer was formed from 19C27 stainless steel, which is in the same family as 12C27. It is one of those rare steels that has exceptional edge holding and can be easily stropped from sort-of-dull to scary-sharp. The blade has smooth action and is perfectly centered. It features a compelling hollow grind, emphasized by bead blasting the flats and satin finishing the swedge hollow grind. A hollow grind will take an excellent edge and is easily sharpened out in the field. A flipper opening mechanism means the blade is moments away from tactical deployment, and a thumb hole offers the user an alternative method of opening the knife.
The scales are formed from durable natural micarta. Micarta is a high-tech material that is not electrically conductive and won't shrink or move, even in the most unforgiving environments. The liners and back spacers are bead blasted to match the flat of the blade. Jimping on the liners is revealed where the micarta scales have been recessed - a nice detail that also aids grippiness during use. The absence of a backbar allows for easy cleaning and lighter construction. The handle is finished with torx head bolts and a pocket clip, all bead blasted, complimenting the blade finish nicely. The pocket clip is set for tip up carry. Exceptional work throughout.
