Description: Tak Fukuta is a member of the American Knife Guild who lives in Japan and runs his family's knife making factory. Since the 1970s, Tak has been designing and making his own knives as well as working on design collaborations with other knife companies. In the late 1970s and early 80s, he worked with Parker Co and Frost and Parker. He continues to design knives that go into production with companies such as Junglee.
This slip joint multi-blade folder features a large (5 inch) clip point and a small (3 inch) drop point blade, both hand forged by Tak from carbon steels. The large blade features a clip point with a pronounced swedge and clean, sleek grind lines, complemented by the narrower small blade's detail-oriented drop point. A thumb nick on each blade allows for easy opening and a secure slip joint mechanism ensures the blade won’t falter once opened! Double bolsters, beautifully cast from silver, feature elegant Confederate ornamentation on the bolster joining the blade and handle. The rear bolster features a goose, guarding two hatched goslings and an egg; the maternal goose is haloed with the seven stars representing the seven original confederate states. The handle itself has scales formed from jigged bone, set on brass liners. The brass brings out the warm tones of the jigged bone well. The handle is completed with four nickel silver pins and an escutcheon.
The entire piece has a satisfying heft and is a faithful and respectful reproduction of knives carried in 1860s America. This was a limited edition that Tak created for Parker Cut Co. in 1987. This knife is number 45 of 100 that were made and is serial numbered on the blade. This knife has been in a private collection and is in new condition.
Smaller blade length: 2", width .35", thickness .06"
