Description: Pär-Olof Eklund is one of the masters of the Sami styled knife and regularly receives awards in the Swedish Championships. Seeing his work, it is no surprise.
This knife is truly a one-of-a-kind piece. The blade was forged by renowned Swedish bladesmith Ivan Linderberg. The blade, which was forged to shape, features a hammer-textured surface -- showing Linderberg's exceptional skill. Both grinds and flats are highly polished, giving both the fascinating texture of a rustic finish and showing the skill and patience of a maker who can bring a mirror finish to such a surface.
The stacked handle is very traditional and has a slim oval shape that fits very comfortably into the hand. Seven discrete pieces of subtly mottled and highly polished reindeer antler surround a central piece of exhibition grade masur birch. This piece has a particularly lovely grain structure and has been polished to bring out the beautiful honey and chocolate tones of the wood. The traditional Scandinavian patterns on the sheath and handle are not scrimshaw, but hand engraving, darkened with alder bark powder. The engraving is very detailed, showing tremendous skill in implementation. The sheath is completed with a braided leather lanyard which is attached to the form fitted leather upper. Exceptional fit and finish throughout! Accompanied by reindeer leather storage pouch.
