Description: Leviathan is a gargantuan knife! The 18 inch blade is quite broad, at just shy of 3-1/4 inches wide. Ensuring strength and durability, Bruce differentially heat treated the blade. A clear heat treatment line is visible in the steel, showing the transition between the soft, supportive spine and the keen, long lasting cutting edge.
The S-guard and pommel were hand forged from wrought iron recovered from an 1850s era wagon wheel. The wrought iron has a nearly Damascene pattern. The stacked handle combines dyed and stabilized zebra wood with a front ironwood spacer.
The knife is accompanied by a carved cowhide sheath. The hand tooling makes the sheath appear to be made from wood.
Given the majestic nature of this knife, it is no surprise that it won Best Sword at the 2008 Blade Show West. It has been in the maker’s private collection since it was made.
