Description: Journeyman Smith Gary Rodewald forged this exceptional classic American Bowie. The blade was forged to shape from 1095 carbon steel. A clay zone heat treatment results in a gently undulating heat treatment line known as a hamon. This shows evidence of the soft, supportive spine, with a keen, hard long lasting edge. It is flat ground with a convex edge. The spine has been hand fileworked.
The handle is an exceptional example of sambar stag. Even when sambar stag was more readily available, a piece of this quality was a desirable rarity. Now, when sambar stag has become nearly impossible to find sambar of this quality is virtually never found. The brass guard nicely separates the handle from the blade. The handle is well finished with a desert ironwood pommel. Excellent work throughout! Accompanied by hand tooled leather sheath.
