Description: Bill Burke, who was honored as a journeyman smith in 2003 and a Mastersmith in 2008, makes knives that are as high performance as they can get. Each knife is pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treat follows the formulas Bill and Ed Fowler developed, which have been proven to create some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere.
This camp knife features an 9 1/8" blade with a strong, thick, spine. It was made while Bill was a journeyman smith and is one of only about 12 knives that Bill marked with his "JS" mark. As with all of Bill's camp and hunting knives, the 52100 carbon steel blade has been differentially heat treated, creating resilience at the spine with an edge that won't quit. The handle is formed from natural sheep horn, which does not become slippery when wet and is amazingly durable. A spacer is formed by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward. This spacer, which is surrounded by black fiber spacers, allows the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
