Description: This Celtic-style paperweight was carved by Tom from African blackwood inlaid with boxwood. The boxwood has been pyrographed into Celtic knotwork patterns. Inside the blackwood paperweight, Tom has carved shibushi into matching Celtic knotwork patterns. Shibuichi means "one-fourth" in Japanese and indicates the standard formulation of one part silver to four parts copper. Until the Meiji reforms (late 19th century), when swordsmiths began to make purely decorative objects instead of swords, shibuichi was used to ornament various fittings for katana. This fun paperweight will be at home on any executive's desk or in a collection.
