Description: Journeyman Smith Gary Rodewald has forged this classic American Bowie with a twist. The long blade is san mai Damascus. This Japanese technique uses a straight carbon steel core (1095) and has Damascus steel forged to the sides. The result is very dramatic and immediately grabs attention. It is flat ground with a convex edge. The result is a knife with a keen edge and exceptional performance. Gary works with very tight tolerances, creating a knife with an excellent fit and finish..
The handle is an exceptional example of sambar stag. Even when sambar stag was more readily available, a piece of this quality was a desirable rarity. Now, when sambar stag has become nearly impossible to find, this was only possible because Gary has been keeping this piece aside for just the right knife. Excellent work throughout!
