Description: Raymond Richard's designs have a timeless grace about them that comes from a family heritage of knifemaking and the inclusion of hard to find materials. The 1095 carbon steel blade was hand forged to shape. The differential temper line is clearly visible on the blade, resulting in an edge that is extremely hard, and will stay sharp through extended use, whereas the spine is softer and supportive. Ray used a traditional Japanese clay technique to heat treat this blade, creating a gently undulating differential heat treatment line called a guname hamon.
The guard and pommel are forged from wrought iron that was recovered from an 1850s era wagon wheel. The wrought iron has a Damascene pattern and has been carved to perfection. The stabilized silver vine wood combines brown and nearly black grain patterns into a very dramatic handle. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
