Description: Anders Hogstrom's work is truly inspirational, and when given the opportunity to create a majestic sword, the results are beyond compare.
The blade is 20 1/2 in. long with a very clear and symmetrical hamon. It is shaped so as to leave a maximum amount of weight at the top and still bee a sharp Gladius point -- penetrating would be brutal with this one. The fittings are cast using the lost wax technique from solid sterling silver. They have been textured and antiqued. Well over a pound of sterling silver was used for the fittings.
The handle is streaked fossil walrus ivory of the highest quality and includes cream tones with brownish/light orange steaks. The tones in the ivory go well with the sheath which is made from veneer quality German ash. The sheath show's off Ander's skill in woodwork -- drawing from his youth as a furniture maker in Sweden. The sheath is lines with felt to minimize scuffing and scratching and is a perfect fit with no play. Accompanied by birch display stand. Gladius is most certainly Anders' masterpiece to date.
This knife was featured in the Nov. 2006 issue of Blade Magazine.
