Description: Ed Schempp is one of the true innovators of the knife industry. Again and again, when I ask other makers who has influenced and helped them, Ed Schempp's name pops up. Never satisfied with the status quo, Ed is constantly developing new methods and tools, pushing the limits on what is possible.
Celtic Dichotomy presents two worlds -- one light and one dark. The left side of this liner lock features cream colored mammoth ivory, including the mammoth ivory thumb stud. The Damascus is heat colored to bronze. The right side features deep blue/green mammoth ivory and the Damascus has been heat blued to blues and purples.
The center point of the knife is a San Mai blade where the Damascus on the opposing sides is different. He was able to accomplish this by making a san mai blade where a central core of carbon steel is surrounded by two Damascus layers. The result is captivating and something that I have never seen tried before. On the left side of the blade is Celtic Knot work. On the right are Celtic Crosses. The same "switch" is repeated on the bolsters.
This is one of the most creative pieces that I have seen for quite some time. As you would expect, excellent fit and finish throughout.
