Description: Sara-Mi's craftsmanship has become well known through her rings and other jewelry. This was the first knife she ever created, though you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at it. Clearly working with Roger Bergh (now her husband) made her a quick study.
Secret mammoth has been in a private collection since it was made by Sara-Mi in the Spring of 2003. It has been meticulously cared for and by all appearances Sara-Mi could have made it yesterday.
The petite blade is formed from firecracker damascus forged by renowned knifemaker Roger Bergh. By using 15N20 and 20C carbon steels, Roger ensured the blade will have excellent edge retention. The deeply etch blade is immediately captivating.
The handle is made from a beautiful section of mammoth ivory. Sara Mi created secret compartments on each side of the knife by hollowing out the ivory. The covers are created from 18k gold. At the bottom of each compartment, is a blacklip mother of pearl underlay. Though not necessary to open the compartments, Sara Mi included a carved mammoth ivory opener. Both the bolster and false tang are formed using desert ironwood. Coral spacers provide a stunning contrast between the mammoth ivory and ironwood. The handle is completed with a short beaded leather lanyard.
The knife includes a sheath formed from mammoth ivory with a snakewood spacer.
The fit and finish she acquired through her work with jewelry has clearly transferred well to knives.
