Description: John Fraps is an up and coming maker that I am watching with tremendous interest. He clearly has thought through his designs and has embraced new materials such as Timascus. Timascus is a material that is quickly hitting the knife market with a vengeance. Created by a group which includes Tom Ferry, Timascus is a very light and durable "Damascus" created by forging different grades of Titanium rather than steels.
The screws are gold plated slotted screws. The thumbstud is made from a solid 14k gold rod and inset with a cut blue sapphire. The 6AL4V titanium liners are jewel polished, heat colored to gold tones, fully fileworked and then the edges are buffed to silver color with the gold remaining in the filecuts. The back spacer is gold heat colored, jewel polished on inside, and vine fileworked on outside and heat colored gold and buffed silver on vine with gold left in the file cuts. "FRAPS" is engraved inside on the spacer. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
