Description: The gent’s bowie was custom built by Journeyman Smith Mike Clark. It will be easy to keep close at hand. It is small enough to easily conceal-carry, but large enough to get most tasks done.
The clip point blade was hand forged from Mike's own san mai Damascus, combining a 1084 carbon steel core with A203E spring steel cladding. A203E was made for reactor shells and other pressure vessels and is extremely tough, allowing it to protect the hardened 1084 carbon steel core. The top clip of the blade is fully sharpened. The primary bevel is convex ground for a durable, sharp edge. Mike's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is presentation grade Arizona desert ironwood. This rare piece combines heartwood and sapwood into a truly dramatic and elegant handle. Desert ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a rare wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is extremely dense and durable. In fact, it is so dense, that if a piece is dropped in water it will sink! The contoured handle provides a comfortable grip. A heat blued mild steel spacer separates the handle from the oval mild steel guard.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
