Description: This chef’s knife is the collaborative creation of Journeyman Smiths Luke Dellmyer and Richard Patterson. Given the exceptional level of work from both makers, it is perhaps no surprise that it won Best Kitchen Knife at the 2025 Blade Show – Texas.
This knife will be a perfect 'go-to' knife in the kitchen. The 9 inch blade provides plenty of reach, while still being easy to control. A gentle arc to the blade's edge makes this a perfect knife for both a rocking chop and a forward slice. Whether chopping onions, slicing tomatoes, mincing parsley, or portioning and slicing meats, this elegant chef's knife is sure to become a favorite in your kitchen.
The blade was hand forged by Journeyman Smith Luke Dellmyer (b. 1980), of Hellertown, PA. The dramatic pattern shows tremendous skill at the forge. It is well controlled and has high contrast. Because it is forged from carbon steels, it must be washed, dried and oiled before it is put away to avoid oxidation. The resulting blade will have an extremely keen, long-lasting edge. The nimble, flat ground blade has thin geometry and will effortlessly slice and chop. The spine and choil are well-rounded to reduce hotspots when used in a pinch grip. The damascus pattern moves seamlessly from the blade into the integral bolster. Creating an integral bolster results in superior strength and durability, but takes a particularly talented bladesmith. Dellmyer was clearly up to the task.
The faced handle was built by Journeyman Smith Richard Patterson. The handle is African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon). African blackwood is among the most dense, durable woods in the world and is highly prized for its jet black appearance. The handle has cut facets that make this knife exceptionally comfortable even when used for hours at a time.
Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Exceptional work throughout!
