Description: This Integral Damascus Hunter was made by Josh Hults. Josh grew up in South Mississippi on a small farm. Growing up in a rural area, if he wasn't working, most of his time was spent exploring in the woods or building something. Since he was a small child, he had a passion for making things -- from flint knives to bows and arrows, to tree houses and bridges. If he could scavenge the materials to attempt an idea, he would try it. He learned how to shoe horses from his father and by his late teen years, he had a small horse shoeing business established. His horse shoeing business prospered and over the years, he shod horses from coast to coast and from Canada to Florida. Today, he works as a fireman and builds knives in his spare time. He built his first knife in 2008 and was immediately hooked. In June of 2022, he earned his journeyman smith stamp.
The drop point blade is forged from Josh's own twist damascus combining 1084 and 15N20 carbon steel to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The fine pattern is extremely engaging, showing lots of movement in the steel. The blade is flat ground and razor sharp. Josh's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. His J.S. mark is on the right side. Because the blade is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade from rust.
The bolster is integral to the blade, with the damascus pattern moving seamlessly from bolster to blade. This technique has superior structural integrity and requires a particularly talented smith.
The handle is bubinga, sculpted to provide a comfortable grip. Bubinga (Guibourtia tessmannii) also known as African Rosewood, is a dense hardwood from Central and Western Africa, prized for its rich reddish-brown color, striking grain patterns, and durability. It is a versatile wood, used in high-end furniture, cabinetry, musical instruments (like guitars and drums), and even luxury car interiors. The handle is fit perfectly to the integral bolster. Copper and black G-10 spacers will help the natural wood adjust to humidity and temperature changes. The handle nicely fills your hand and the balance point is right at the bolster.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled pouch style leather custom sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
