Description: Jean Wilke is a young custom knifemaker from Pretoria, South Africa. His knives are exceptionally well designed and tested. His attention to detail is clearly evident in each of his creations. He is currently working with Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey, travelling back and forth every two weeks, alternating between working at Heavin Forge and his home forge, Fire Goby Forge. It is very exciting to see such a young make with such tremendous talent.
The 7-3/4 inch clip point blade is forged from Jean's own san mai combining an 80CrV2 carbon steel core and wrought iron cladding. Bright nickel layers set in between help prevent carbon migration and create a particularly dramatic transition point. 80CrV2 carbon steel is extremely tough and chip resistant while maintaining excellent wear resistance.
The S-guard is textured, anodized titanium protecting your hand while keeping the knife lightweight. Fileworked titanium spacers surround a large polished nickel silver spacer.
The handle is Karelian birch featuring a gorgeous grain. The contoured handle fills your hand and provides a comfortable grip. A fileworked and blue anodized titanium spacer separates the handle from the butt cap. The butt cap is mosaic damascus that was forged as a collaboration between Jean, Mastersmith Kevin Harvey, De Wet van Zyl, and Stan Howhowsky. A pommel nut inlaid with abalone finishes the handle. This knife feels exceptional in hand!
To keep the knife close at hand, a brown leather custom sheath with a blue dyed ostrich shin overlay made by Jean is included.
Excellent work throughout!
