Description: This is an exceptional knife by renowned knifemaker, Roderick Chappel. Master Craftsman, Roderick “Caribou” Chappel, was a custom bladesmith based primarily out of Washington state. His blades were high-caliber works of art. He was an artist that brought his pen and paper drawings to life with ease and dexterity. A trail blazer, his passion for knifemaking greatly impacted the custom knifemaking industry. His artistry is immortalized through his unique one-of-a-kind knives, daggers, and bowies. Notorious for his ergonomic hand sculpted grips and the superior mastery in his sweeping grinds, he implemented a hollow grind with a rolled convex edge that would be resilient and sharp through many events of usage. Sadly, Chappel passed away in 2017. This knife has been in a single collection and is in new condition. By all appearances, Rod could have made it yesterday.
The 2-3/4 inch blade was hollow ground. On the left side, it is marked: "January 3rd, 2001 / North Seattle, Wa. / SS. 440C". The right side is marked "Roderick Caribou Chappel … Forest Girl II" (Rod's writing is always a bit hard to read, but I believe I have the knife name correct).
The hollow ground, mirror polished blade is hand ground 440C stainless steel. Stag handle scales are set on the full tang. Red fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. As is typical of Rod's work, the handle is contoured for a very secure, comfortable grip. The handle is completed with a lined lanyard hole.
Excellent work throughout!
