Description: Rusty Preston discovered knifemaking after retiring in 2003 and made his first knife – a fixed blade – in Nov. 2003. In early 2004, he made his first folder under the watchful eye of Bill Ruple. He’s been exhibiting at Blade Show in Atlanta since 2006. Over the years, he has become well known for his high performance, precision slipjoints.
Preston hand built this Peanut Slipjoint Folder with Mammoth Ivory. This is his first knife with this design. The blade is hand ground premium CPM-154 stainless steel. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The blade can be easily opened using the extended nail nick. It has consistent action with a well timed half stop.
The handle is formed from mammoth ivory. Green tones and burnt cream are intermixed. These colors developed as minerals moved into the ivory across thousands of years. Green tones are among the rarest and most desireable. Front and rear bolsters are 416 stainless steel.
Exceptional work throughout!
