Description: This elegant drop point hunter was hand built by Corpus Christi, TX knifemaker Stephen Scherer. Steven started making knives in 1979 and went full time after retirement in 2007. Steven's knives would feel at home whether in a private collection or on the belt of an avid outdoorsman.
The drop point blade was hand ground from high performing CPM-154 stainless steel. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. It features a hand rubbed satin finish and is marked on the left side with Scherer's maker's mark. The belly of the knife moves into a recurve making it an ideal knife for skinning while out in the field. The spine of the knife fileworked to provide additional traction when choking up on the blade.
The handle is made from mammoth ivory bark secured to the full tang using mosaic pins. The bark taken from the outer section of a mammoth tusk combines cream, caramel, and black tones. These colors develop across thousands of years as minerals move into the ancient ivory. Micarta spacers are set between the handle and bolsters. Black fiber liner helps the mammoth ivory adjust to humidity and temperature changes.
416 stainless steel bolsters are hand engraved and inlaid with 24k gold by renowned engraver Alice Carter. The floral scroll style engraving is extremely attractive and provides additional traction for skinning tasks.
To keep the knife close at hand, a custom, hand tooled pouch style leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
