Description: Neill Schutte is a spectacular knifemaker. Regrettably, since Schutte's move to New Zealand, he has made very few knives. I was excited to get this bird and trout knife that was made shortly before his move from South Africa.
Schutte has won a stunning set of awards including Best Fighter at the 2014 and 2015 Blade Shows in Atlanta, Best Hunting Knife at the 2014 and 2016 Knifemakers Guild Show of Southern Africa, Best Boot Knife at the 2013 Knifemakers Guild Show of Southern Africa, and Best Fancy Fixed Blade, Best Knife of Show, and Best Working Fixed Blade at the 2013 Bloemfontein Knifemakers Show.
This bird and trout knife features an RWL-34 stainless steel blade. RWL-34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is made from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel higher strength, durability, and edge holding. It is meticulously mirror polished.
Presentation grade Arizona desert ironwood handle scales are set on a distal tapered full tang. Red fiber spacers add just the right amount of flash. The scales are set in place with six stainless pins
The knife is accompanied by a single seamed, hand stitched pouch style leather sheath.
Absolutely tremendous!
