Description: Washington knifemaker, C. Luis Pina, is an exceptional bladesmith and specializes in kitchen knives. While living in Seattle, he apprenticed under Mastersmith David Lisch. David's eye for design clearly shines through Luis' work on this tremendous slicing knife. Luis' past career as a chef provides him with an understanding of chef's knives that is rarely found in other bladesmiths.
Chef's knives are the general purpose knife in the kitchen. Whether slicing onions, chopping vegetables, or portioning meats, this chef's knife is a perfect go-to knife in the kitchen.
The slim profile blade on this chef's knife was hand forged to shape from W1 carbon steel. A mustard patina provides some rust resistance and tremendous beauty. The convex edge will assist with food release and the rounded spine provides comfort when using a pinch grip. Because this knife is made from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and natural wood handle.
The bolster is fully integral to the blade. This technique has superior structural integrity and requires a particularly talented smith to forge this way in a custom setting. Luis' maker mark is shown on the top of the bolster.
The handle is formed from stabilized presentation grade curly maple. The Japanese-inspired half round, half octagonal handle is comfortable for both right and left handed users. It is octagonal at the top and rounded at the base. Many people find this to be the most comfortable of Japanese handle styles. Stacked spacers made from black and white G10 help the handle adjust to temperature and humidity changes in the kitchen. This is a knife that you will not want to put down!
Excellent work throughout!
