Description: Mastersmith Rick Dunkerley's knives are unique and immediately identifiable. As one of the 'Montana Mafia', he developed liner locks with some of the smoothest action of any folder maker anywhere. He proves that washers create action that is just as smooth as bearings.
Rick began making knives in 1983. In 1991, he forged his first damascus steel and knives were never the same for him. In 1997, he received the Mastersmith rating from the American Bladesmith Society, becoming the first Montana nifemaker to earn that rating. This is also the year Dunkerley started making folding knives. The Italian Knifemakers Guild awarded him their Maestro rating in 2005. He was inducted into the Montana Circle of American masters by the Montana Council for the Arts in 2014. In 2015, Rick was voted into the Art Knife Invitational as a member. His knives have won over 25 awards at shows around the world. Today, he specializes in one-of-a-kind art knives, predominantly folding knives, using the rarest and finest materials. Most of his knives are sole authorship pieces.
The mosaic damascus blade is perfectly executed and shows Mastersmith Dunkerley's tremendous skill at the forge. The highly detailed pattern shown virtually no distortion. The blade has silky smooth action and is perfectly centered. It is easily opened using the heat blued thumb stud which is set with a faceted diamond.
416 stainless steel handle scales have a central window frame that shows off presentation grade blacklip mother of pearl. The scales are meticulously hand engraved by Dunkerley. The front and rear of each handle scale is engraved in floral scroll. Running wheat surrounds the windowframe. Screws throughout have been hand engraved. Meticulously hand fileworked 15N20 carbon steel liners are heat blued. The backbar is hand fileworked and engraved inside and out.
Sole authorship. Exceptional!
