Description: Lonnie Hansen makes some of the most dramatic hawks found anywhere. This pipe hawk is a captivating example of his best work. Lonnie has told me that this is the most intricate hawk that he has made to date.
The head and all fittings are forged from titanium and given an heirloom quality antique finish. This keeps the hawk light and nimble. Each side of the head is inline with genuine 1867 nickels. The right side also features Hansen's maker's mark. The octagon bowl is carved and textured, moving into an octagonal neck. This hawk featues and entirely titanium e-nut that Lonnie custom built. It is easily removed for cleaning the titanium tube that moves through the center of the haft. The heat is meticulously carved in a castle wall and window motif that is continued onto the mouthpiece.
The haft is formed from presentation grade curly ash wood. The head measures approximately 8.9 inches from cutting edge to the end of the bowl. The cutting edge is 3.6 inches long. The haft measures 24-1/4 inches overall and is finished with a titanium collar, end caps, and mouthpiece.
The hawk is accompanied by a waxed canvas and leather padded storage case.
Lonnie creates his hawks with a tremendous amount of hand carving and the results here are turly exceptional and unique.
