Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kikuo Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. Kiku joined his father's knifemaking business at the age of 15 and learned grinding technique from his father. Over the decades, his skill at the grinder has become legendary.
The karambit is originally from the Indonesian archipelago and has found its way throughout South East Asia. Primarily used in the ancient world as a do-it-all knife, the modern renditions of this versatile tool has steadily gained popularity and respect within the tactical world of knives in recent years. The dramatic shape, finger hole and exotic manipulation has captivated collectors, martial blade practitioners and knife enthusiasts alike.
The Kiku Knives Karambit Hawk pays homage to classic karambit elements. The OU-31 semi-stainless steel blade features a hollow grind with serration to assist with the hardest cuts. OU-31 is a Japanese PM (powdered metallurgical) steel with micro fine crystalline structure that embodies many of the best attributes needed for knives. The steel is hardened to 64 Hrc (very hard!) and has more than 3 times the toughness of D2. Jimping along the spine ensures a secure, comfortable grip. Hand sculpted black Micarta handle scales are comfortable and provide a superbly secure grip. The handle culminates in a glass breaking tip. An easily concealable, whirlwind of punishment ready for any questionable "social situation" you may unexpectedly be confronted with. Kikuo Matsuda brings this design to life with understated beauty and simplicity.
Accompanied by a Kydex sheath with DOTS belt clip.
