Description: This folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005. Ricus' folders combine incredibly smooth action with a high level of fit and finish. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances, Herecus could have made it yesterday!
The blade is easily opened by using the inobtrusive front flipper mechanism. A front flipper is more compact than the traditional flipper mechanism and is less likely to get caught on things in a pocket. This style of flipper is designed to be flicked out using your thumb. The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth action due to the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
The drop point blade is made from premium Bohler M390 stainless steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. M390 takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it due to its high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hand hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
3D machined ivory G-10 handle scales are set on bead blasted titanium liners. The liners surround an M390 stainless steel backbar. The handle is completed with a 3D machined titanium pocket clip mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry. A ceramic ball held in the pocket clip makes it particularly easy to use.
This folder is a classy and refined piece, unique and not ostentatious. Ricus is clearly a maker to keep an eye out for - exceptional fit and finish throughout!
