Description: This Lanny's Clip slipjoint by Tobin Hill features a CPM-154 stainless steel blade and beautifully matched jigged bone handle scales. Though Tobin has only been making knives for a bit over 3 years, his work does not reflect the short time he has been at it. Tobin learned to make knives from legendary folder maker Bill Ruple. He is clearly a maker to watch.
The Lanny's Clip design was developed by renowned folder maker Tony Bose for his friend Lanny Shell from Tennessee. Lanny saw the knife and bought the first ten that Tony produced. Lanny's Clip is now an iconic design and a favorite in the slipjoint community.
The clip point blade is formed from American-made CPM-154 stainless steel and features a hand rubbed satin finish. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The perfectly centered blade can be easily opened using the right-handed nail nick. The action is smooth with a firm half stop. The blade and spring have been hand fileworked into a rope pattern.
Amber jigged bone scales are secured to stainless steel liners using hand domed pins. A stainless steel escutcheon is inlaid into the left scale. Fluted 416 stainless steel bolsters are perfectly fit to the scales. A stainless steel lanyard tube allows a lanyard to be added if desired.
Nice work from an up-and-coming maker!
