Description: Mastersmith Mike Vagnino began his journey into knifemaking back in 1995, starting with a forging class from Karl Shroen, continuing his training under the watchful eye of Mastersmith Tim Hancock. He received his journeyman smith rating in 2001 and his Mastersmith rating in 2003. He strives to build beautiful artistic knives that also excel in performance.
This Mako Prototype is the very first prototype handmade by Mike for a batch of production knives he is making for Terrain 365 in early 2020. The knife is thin profiled and lightweight (Only 2.8 oz!), yet will have no issue tackling some heavier duty cutting tasks.
The harpoon tip blade is made from CPM-154 stainless steel with a stonewash finish. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The blade is well centered and can be easily opened using the ambidextrous flipper tab.
The bead blasted titanium handle features a sturdy framelock and a fuller groove to reduce weight and provide a superior grip. A titanium backspacer keeps the knife light and strong. The 3D machined, bead blasted titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
