Description: Journeyman Smith Scott Gallagher makes an exceptional knife. I was very excited when Mastersmith Bill Burke introduced me to Scott at the 2019 Blade Show in Atlanta. Gallagher's attention to detail is immediately visible in his exquisite knives.
The blade was hand forged from W2 carbon steel. A differential heat treatment combines superior strength with a keen, long lasting edge. The elegant, undulating differential heat treatment line is visible as it travels across the blade. Gallagher created the differential heat treatment using a technique borrowed from Japanese swords. Prior to quenching the spine was coated with clay to act as an insulator. A turnback at the tip ensures that the unsharpened clip is also fully hardened.
Presentation grade stabilized buckeye burl (Aesculus spp.) is contoured for a secure, comfortable grip. The convoluted wood is exceptionally dramatic. The 416 stainless steel bolster is precision fit to the handle and blade.
This hunter will be kept close at hand using the hand tooled leather sheath. The knife is perfectly balanced -- you'll have a hard time putting it down.
Exceptional work throughout!
