Description: Mickaël Moing is a true artist and creator of unique pieces. His workshop is located in Saint-Privat-d'Allier, France. He strives to make knives that are functional and practical, but are also true objects of art. I was very excited when I was introduced to him by Mastersmith Adam DesRosiers and immediately asked if we could get some of his work for BladeGallery. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made for BladeShow 2019. By all appearances it is in brand new condition and Mikael could have made it yesterday!
This elegant chopper shows Moing's work at its best. The broad blade and integral bolster were forged to shape combining O2 and 12C27 steels. The edge is razor sharp with a deep recurve for efficient chopping.
Integral bolsters take tremendous amounts of skill, challenging even the best bladesmith. Here, Moing has shown his supremacy in the forge. Poplar burl scales are set onto the integral full tang. The distal taper ensures a perfect balance for a knife that wants to be swung! The handle is completed with a claw held by a leather lanyard.
The knife is accompanied by hand tooled, hand stitched leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
