Description: Mickaël Moing is a true artist and creator of unique pieces. His workshop is located in Saint-Privat-d'Allier, France. He strives to make knives that are functional and practical, but are also true objects of art. I was very excited when I was introduced to him by Mastersmith Adam DesRosiers and immediately asked if we could get some of his work for BladeGallery.
This elegant chopper shows Moing's work at its best. The broad blade and integral bolster were forged to shape combining O2 and 12C27 steels. The edge is razor sharp with a deep recurve for efficient chopping.
Integral bolsters take tremendous amounts of skill, challenging even the best bladesmith. Here, Moing has shown his supremacy in the forge. The contoured handle is formed from stabilized amboyna burl. The reddish brown wood has a tremendous, swirling figure. A bronze spacer separates the handle from the integral guard. The blade is distal tapered, ensuring a perfect balance for a knife that wants to be swung!
The knife is accompanied by hand tooled, hand stitched leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
