Description: Journeyman Smith Keith Fludder lives in New South Wales, Australia. He started making knives in 1989 is now a full time maker. Keith's knives are works of art that excel in performance. This bowie shows his exceptional skill at the forge.
The 11-1/4 in. blade is made from a bar of hand forged san mai that features a 52100 core surrounded by layers of random pattern damascus sides. 52100 provides a nearly unmatched keen, long lasting edge. Many knifemakers (such as Mastersmiths Bob Kramer, Bill Burke, and Ed Fowler) and users feel that 52100 carbon steel is among the highest performing steels used to make a blade. Keith's maker mark is shown on the left side of the ricasso and his J.S. stamp is shown on the right side. Because the knife is made from carbon steels we recommend using camellia oil to oil both the blade and natural wood handle.
The handle is made from Gabon ebony (Diospyros crassiflora). This jet black wood is highly desirable, very durable, and often sought after for its unique dark appearance. The hidden tang handle is secure using a hand domed pin and is perfectly fit to a textured and blackened steel guard.
To keep the knife close at hand, a custom brown leather sheath is included. A retention strap will prevent the knife from falling out of the sheath during carry.
Excellent work throughout!
