Description: Raymond Richard's designs have a timeless grace about them that comes from a family heritage of knifemaking and the inclusion of hard to find materials.
The blade was forged to shape beginning with W5 carbon steel. A traditional Japanese clay zone heat treatment ensures a hard cutting edge, with a soft, supportive spine. The spine was coated with insulating clay prior to quenching in water. The gently undulating heat treatment line is called a hamon.
The S-guard, ferrule, and pommel are forged from wrought iron recovered from an 1800s era wagon wheel. The sambar stag handle is comfortable and provides a sure grip. Sambar stag of this quality has become increasingly difficult to find. The knife can be kept close at hand with the hand sewn, hand tooled leather sheath. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
