Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey creates some of the most dramatic bowies found anywhere. His melding of traditional knives with his own style has ensured his bowie knives are among the most collectible found anywhere.
The 9 inch clip point blade was hand forged from 1070 carbon steel. It was forged closely to shape, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. The blade was heat treated using a technique borrowed from Japanese swords. The spine was coated with clay prior to quenching. This results in a soft, supportive spine and keen, long lasting cutting edge. The gently undulating heat treatment line turns back so that the clip is fully hardened as well. Both the clip and the blade are sharpened.
The handle is made from Arizona desert ironwood (Olneya tesota). This warm toned wood has a swirling figure with a nice mix of warm and dark lines The handle was carved in a style inspired by an Enoch Drabble Sheffield Bowie from the late 1830s. The left side of the handle is set with a nickel silver escutcheon. The oval guard and ferrule are also nickel silver. The ferrule is nicely engraved by Mastersmith Harvey.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched cowhide sheath with ostrich leather inlay. The border is hand tooled.
