Description: Journeyman Smith Shawn Ellis lives in the Ozarks -- an area well known for hunting and fishing. After searching for a knife that would perform well -- holding a keen, long lasting edge -- Sean realized that he had to learn how to forge and create his own knives. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made in 2019. It appears to be in brand new, unused condition.
Shawn began this clip point Bowie by hand forging the san mai blade. W2 carbon steel is surrounded by 410 stainless steel. This not only creates a beautiful knife, but it also makes caring for it far easier. The darker blade edge has the performance brought by carbon steel, though the higher satin finished area of the blade is stainless steel. The dramatic undulating line moving across the blade shows the transition between the hard center core and softer sides.
The 416 stainless steel guard and ferrule are hand satin finished and perfectly fit to both handle and blade. The handle is contoured from a single piece of presentation grade walnut The wood has a nice figure and dark brown tone. The handle is contoured for a tremendous grip. You won't want to put this knife down!
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
