Description: Journeyman Smith Jim Arbuckle resides in Yorktown, VA. He started making knives in 1979 and has been forging knives since 1996. Growing up in Washington State, he spent most weekends hunting and fishing and has a great understanding of what features make a knife perform well. This handmade fighter shows off Jim's experience as a knifemaker and knife user.
The blade is forged from Jim's own damascus beginning with 15n20 and 1084 carbon steels. A deep etch provides a darkened high contrast random pattern that is immediately captivating. The blade was then hardened and triple tempered to Hrc 59-60 to provide a tough, yet long lasting edge. A false edge travels a third way up the blade. The blade is distal tapered, creating a perfect balance.
The handle is made from stabilized curly Brazilian walnut, contoured to fit the hand comfortably in a variety of grips. An elliptical damascus guard and ferrule are separated by a copper spacer. Black fiber spacers were added to prevent galvanic action.
This exceptional knife is accompanied by a 10-11 oz leather sheath handmade by Jim to keep the knife close at hand.
