Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey teaches bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn his techniques. Kevin uses the Heavin Forge mark on his knives when he creates a knife while demonstrating for his classes. This is one such knife.
The 5-3/4 inch clip point blade was hand forged from 1070 carbon steel. It was forged closely to shape, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. A differential heat treatment line travels across the blade. This ensures a strong edge supported by the resilience of the softer spine.
The handle is made from red ivory wood (Berchemia zeyheri). Red ivory is a dramatic wood from South Africa. Red Ivory trees are said to be both rare and valuable. They are rumored to be "rarer than diamonds." According to folklore, the tree is considered sacred to the Zulus in South Africa and is reserved for royalty. The contoured handle is fit perfectly to the nickel silver ferrule.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched, basketweave tooled cowhide sheath.
