Description: Mastersmith Bill Burke makes knives that are as high performance as a knife can get. He is best known for his sheep horn hunting knives and chef's knives. His slip joint folders are similarly exquisite.
The complex damascus blades were hand forged from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels. They are a pattern called Dragon's Breath. Detailed flames radiate from a central burst. Dragon's Breath is a pattern that was invented by Burke and it has become a hallmark of his knives.
This classic Two Blade Saddle Horn Trapper features 2-1/2 inch blades: a clip point, and a spey blade. The spey blade is very useful for working with livestock and for carvers. For centuries, the clip point blade has been the main blade in more knives than not. You have only to look at these knives to know the main feature of a clip blade.
The scales are exhibition grade mammoth ivory bark. This very rare mammoth ivory was found in a silver mine. Over centuries, minerals in the soil transferred into the ancient ivory, imparting its dramatic natural color. Veins of silver from deposits in the mine are visible moving through the bark ivory. I have encountered less than a handful of knives over the years that had mammoth ivory recovered from silver mines and the effect is truly amazing. The left scale is set with a stainless steel escutcheon. The scales are perfectly fit to 416 stainless steel bolsters and are secured with stainless pins. The action is smooth with firm half stops.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
