Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor is well known for his batwing folders. The batwing folder is the knife that has most defined Mastersmith Shane Taylor's knifemaking career. He developed this style relatively early in his knifemaking and it certainly put him on the map. It is a tremendously comfortable and engaging shape. This exceptional folder was made by Taylor back in 1998. It has been in a private collection and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The blade is formed from three bars of damascus -- all forged from 15N20 and 1084 carbon steels. The edge is a twisted Ws pattern. The two other bars are Shane's Crusader pattern mosaic damascus. This pattern is also a hallmark of Shane's work. The blade is well centered, with silky-smooth action. It is easily opened with one hand.
Mammoth ivory scales combine cream and caramel tones. The ivory is dovetailed to the matching mosaic damascus bolsters for a perfect fit. The screws are hand fileworked and heat-blued to a complementary hue. 15N20 liners are textured and nitre blued. Shane's mark is on the interior of the liners. The damascus backbar is fileworked both inside and out with a detailed vine pattern.
As with Shane's other batwing folders, the handle fits securely into the hand and allows several grips.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout -- and a rare find for Shane Taylor fans!
