Description: An exceptional masterpiece by Fred Ott! This slender knife has tremendous presence and grace. The blade is distal tapered for optimal balance. This is accentuated by the thick spine (just under 1/4 inch!) at the ricasso. The blade is formed from W2 carbon steel and was given a clay zone heat treatment. This technique, borrowed from Japanese swords, creates a softer, supportive spine, with a hard, long lasting edge. The undulating line in the steel (called a hamon) shows the transition between the softer spine and the hard cutting edge.
The handle has been sculpted from ebony and is nicely offset with the bronze guard.
Particular attention also went into the design and execution of the sheath, which was carved from walnut wood.
Tremendous fit and finish throughout!
