Description: This exceptional art dagger was made by John M Smith. It has been in a private collection and is in new condition. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday. I believe this was made by John Malcom Smith, who was a tremendously well known knifemaker and bladesmith in the 80s and 90s. It is a tremendous knife and a steel at the price.
The claw shaped blade was forged to shape from twist pattern damascus. The spine reaches just over 1/3 inch thick and has a perfect distal taper. A deep hollow grind shows off the pattern beautifully. The integral guard is carved from the same piece of damascus and shows the maker's skill at its best. This moves into a lapis handle.
The work throughout is truly exceptional. The fit and finish are absolutely perfect. The carving shows a true master's skill.
