Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey is well known for his tremendous attention to detail -- only matched by his skill at design. This Butcher and Woodhead style bowie is a dramatic example of his work. W&S Butcher and George Woodhead are knifemakers from Sheffield, England. William Butcher was in business from before 1830 to some time after 1850. Woodhead made knives from approximately 1840 - 1850. The Butcher and Woodhead Style Bowie is a classic Sheffield design that has inspired many makers and collectors over the years.
The 7-1/2 inch clip point blade was forged to shape by Kevin. The pattern is one he calls Heartbeat pattern damascus and is forged from 160 layers of alternating carbon steels. It is high contrast and immediately captivating. The spine moves into the clip point swedge. The cutting edge is finished with a Spanish notch for easy maintenance.
The handle is made from caramel toned giraffe bone. As is typical of the style, an African blackwood frame creates the illusion of a full tang. Fittings throughout, including the hand domed studs, escutcheon, and guard are formed from nickel silver. Both sides of the guard were meticulously engraved by Kevin in English scroll style.
This knife is accompanied by a beechwood sheath wrapped in ostrich shin leather with a nickel silver throat and tip. The button has been engraved to match the bolster.
Absolutely exceptional work throughout!
