Description: Australian born knifemaker Glenn Waters spent much of his adult life in Japan. His unique style combines Japanese and European aesthetics to create dramatic masterworks.
This compact folder combines a premium SG2 powdered metallurgical (PM) stainless steel blade with a titanium frame. SG2 (Super Gold 2) is powdered metallurgical steel with a super-fine grain structure. It is free from impure substances and achieves good abrasion resistance. The addition of 15% Cr (chromium) provides good corrosion resistance while 2.8% Mo (molybdenum) makes a stronger substrate (matrix) and helps prevent carbides from dropping out of solution during heat treatment. The addition of V (vanadium) creates finer grain. The added Cr, Mo, and V form many hard carbides, so abrasion resistance improves. Fine grain and abrasion resistance gives knives long lasting, very keen, clean, cutting edge.
The mirror polished blade is textured near the cutting edge. The front is engraved with Raijin, the Japanese God of Thunder. A dragon is engraved on the back. Details on Raijin are inlaid with 24kt gold. The blade rides on the ceramic bearings. It is curved for aggressive cutting and is easily opened using the flipper mechanism.
The solid titanium frame is milled for a great grip. Choosing titanium keeps the knife light, fast and strong. The screws are beta titanium. The proprietary pivots are heat treated stainless steel with AlTiN/TiAlN Hard Titanium Coating. The titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-up carry. It is inlaid with a purple star sapphire.
Exceptional work throughout!
