Description: This exceptional camp knife was forged by David Lisch while he was a journeyman smith. It has been in a single private collection since it was made and has been meticulously cared for. It is in new condition and by all appearances could have been made yesterday.
The 11 inch long blade was forged to shape using David's own damascus. He combined 15N20, 1080 and 1075 carbon steels. By combining three separate steels, David creates subtle complex tones in his steel that are quite enticing. The blade has a long false edge moving into David's JS mark just in front of the integral bolster.
Though integral knives are regularly done in production work, creating an integral bolster in a custom setting is extremely difficult and shows the maker's skill at its best. A silicon bronze spacer is set between the bolster and the presentation grade spalted oak handle. The wood is quite dramatic with deep black spalting lines. It is carved for a thin choil, move into a thicker palm swell, move into a slimmer waist, finally swelling again at the pommel. It is extremely comfortable -- you won't want to put it down!
Exceptional work throughout!
