Description: Journeyman Smith Bruce Barnett is a Western Australian knifemaker living in the hills of Perth. Bruce is one of the fine Australian makers who is drawing the attention of the knifemaking world to the wealth of knifemaking talent in his country. Bruce's attention to detail and fine design aesthetic is clearly apparent in this elegant and high performing chef's knife.
This high performance chef's knife is a perfect choice as a primary knife in the kitchen. The long, deep-bellied blade is well suited for slicing vegetables and meats. The gentle arch of the cutting edge is perfect for a rocking chopping motion with plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board.
Bruce hand forged this san mai damascus blade to shape. VG-10 super-steel, made by Takefu Special Steel in Japan, is surrounded by nickel damascus. The resulting blade has strength a resilience with exceptional edge holding. The beauty of the many layers of steel is immediately captivating.
The handle is formed from presentation grade figured jarrah wood (Eucalyptus marginata). Jarrah is a Eucalyptus tree native to the southwest of Western Australia. The tree and the wood are usually referred to by the Aboriginal name jarrah. Because of the similar appearance of worked jarrah timber to the Honduras mahogany, jarrah was once called Swan River mahogany after the river system that runs through Perth, Bruce Barnet's home. The jarrah scales have rich, bright tones and a swirling figure. The handle is nicely contoured to fit comfortably in hand. The scales are secured to the distal tapered full tang using beautiful mosaic copper and stainless pins.
Excellent work throughout on a knife that is sure to become a chef's favorite knife in the kitchen!
