Description: With one of the most impressive Damascus patterns that I've seen, Cliff has created a truly beautiful knife.
Cliff creates knives that push the limits of what is possible. The action is super-smooth and blade perfectly centered. Here, he has created a very sleek profiled liner lock folder (due to the complexity of the mechanism, liner locks tend to be fairly thick). With a blade length of just over 3-1/2 inches, this knife measures only .39" wide! Cliff spent considerable time over the past several years testing and experimenting his designs to create a knife that is sturdy, but as low profile as possible.
The blade is formed from damascus steel forged from 15N20 and 1084 carbon steels. The claw blade shape alludes to a scythe blade. The bolsters include pure nickel along with 1084 and 4600E carbon steels, for even higher contrast. Cliff created a central damascus tile depicting the reaper in extreme detail. This is surrounded by images of tiny skulls. Even the backbar uses matching damascus.
The bolsters meet perfectly to the ancient bog oak. The oak wood used for the handles has been buried in a peat bog for thousands of years. The extremely low oxygen conditions of the bog protected the wood from normal decay, while the underlying peat provides acidic conditions where iron salts and other minerals react with the tannins in the wood, gradually giving it a distinct dark brown to almost black color. The screws have been heat colored and fileworked. The thumb stud is inlaid with matching bog oak.
The fit and finish is as good as it gets!
