Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor began this dramatic fighter by forging the blade to shape from three separate bars of damascus. The elegant pattern is immediately captivating, combining bold and complex patterns. The left ricasso is engraved with Shane's mark, "S T". The blade has an elegant recurve and is distal tapered for a perfect balance. The spine was engraved by Shane in a Celtic knotwork motif.
The oval guard is formed from antiqued copper. The perimeter is stippled.
The handle combines two sections of ancient walrus ivory. The front is a very dark walrus ivory. This color develops in ivory when it has been buried in a fire pit for hundreds and thousands of years. The rear section is a very rare fire starter artifact. The right side features the remains of the indent created by the friction of starting fires across many years. The two pieces are ivory are combined in an elegant 'S'. Fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The handle is completed with a hand domed, stippled copper pin.
Exceptional work throughout!
