Description: Gary House is best known for his outstanding damascus. His steel, which is frequently used by other high end makers on their knives, is dramatic -- showing tremendous interest in the details when viewed close at hand and having bolder patterns that draw attention from a distance.
The drop point blade and the integral guard were forged from Gary's damascus beginning with 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. The blade is a multi-bar composite in a twist pattern. The blade would make a great general utility blade, or, as Gary suggested, a wonderful personal steak knife.
The nicely sculpted handle is formed from a section of ancient walrus ivory artifact. In the mid-1800s, the Inuit used ancient walrus ivory for tools ranging from fish hooks, to fire starters and sled runners. This is one such artifact -- most likely a tool handle in its previous incarnation as well. The coloration is primarily cream and orange tones. Gary has left the shape of the fossil artifact largely unchanged and the organic shape is extremely captivating. Exceptional work throughout!
