Description: Journeyman Smith David Lisch is an knifemaker located in Seattle, WA. David has been focusing increasingly more attention on chef's knives and he is clearly becoming a maker to watch in this area. As well as being a bladesmith, David is a renowned blacksmith and teacher of knifemaking at the Studio 4 Knifemaking School, which he runs. David's control over damascus, as shown in this dramatic chef's knife, is amazing.
This high performance chef's knife is a perfect choice as a primary knife in the kitchen. The long, deep-bellied blade is well suited for slicing vegetables and meats. The gentle arch of the cutting edge is perfect for a rocking chopping motion with plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board.
David created the detailed random damascus and forged the blade to shape. The blade and bolster are all made from one solid piece of damascus. Though integral knives are regularly done in production work, creating an integral bolster in a custom setting is extremely difficult and shows the maker's skill at its best. The blade is beautifully distal tapered for a perfect balance.
The handle is formed from a single piece of amboyna. The workmanship is beautiful and the wood chosen is gorgeous! Stark contrast between the light and dark aspects are stunning. Contours ensure a comfortable and safe grip. Alternating silicon bronze and G10 spacers set between the handle and integral bolster assist the wood to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
A gorgeous piece built for serious use, yet one of the more dramatic kitchen knives that I have come across.
